Frequently Asked Questions

The Top Questions Answered

Visitors to my site will often send in questions. I will do my best to update this list as often as possible with answers to the most common questions. I may start a new blog that is just an Ask Pete section. But, that is definately in the far future.

General Questions - Answers

  1. What is RunPete.com?
RunPete.com is a site run by Pete about his challenge to get back into shape after living four unhealthly years at college. You can track my progress on the Log and even see my writings related to running. You can read more about RunPete.com on the About RP page.

  2. Who is Pete?
I am a former college student who graduated in 2006. While at school I made many acheivements. However, I also failed in one area: health. I gained nearly 50 pounds during the time I was at school. I decided it was time for that to change. You can read more about me on my about Pete page.

  3. Why did you start RunPete.com?
Many people have said that it is easier to get back into shape when you have people supporting you. I can reach a lot more people online for support than I can within my own friends and family. (Now, my friends and family are very supportive of this, but so are 50,000 people I do not know!). So, I started this site to keep my motivation high, to keep a track of my progress, and to help others do the same thing I have.

Blog Questions - Answers

  1. What are the blogs?
The blogs (short for web log) are where I will post all of my writings. These include running tips, trail stories, logged miles, social events, and more.

  2. How do I get to the blogs?
Links to the blogs are located at the top of the page (Running & The Log). They can also be found on the left side of the page under the "Blogs" heading. They can also be found at the very bottom of the page in the dark box. The RP Blog Frontpage (link located at the bottom of the page) is where you can view all blogs on a single page.

  3. How do I make a comment or reply to a post in the blogs?
After each post in the blogs, you will see a variety of information. This includes when it was posted, where it was posted, the direct link to the post, and a link for comments. Click on the link to the comments. This will take you to the comments for that post. At the end of all comments posted will be a section for you to type the information required to post a comment. You must fill in your name and comments. There is an approval process so you will not be able to view your comments right away.

  4. Can I post an article in your blogs?
All site content is provided by me. Some of the content may sourced and come from other sites, authors, etc. If you feel that you have an article that would be benefitial to the readers of my site, please feel free to contact me!

  5. Why hasn't my comment or reply shown up on the blogs?
All comments must be approved by me before they will appear on the site. If I do not approve your comment, it will not appear on the site. It may take anywhere between 2 and 24 hours before I can approve your comment.

  6. It says that I am banned. What does that mean?
Dictionary.com says that banned means " To prohibit, especially by official decree." Plain and simple: you made comments on the site that were inappropriate or were spamming the comments. Instead of stopping, you continued to troll or spam and therefore you were banned. If you think this is a mistake, contact me and we will talk about it.

  7. It says that I cannot comment or reply because you enabled a time limit. How long do I have to wait?
Slow down there speedy! The time limit is not that long. If you get that message, it means you are putting comments on the site way too quickly. (To be honest, I got the message when I was testing the system by typing just a few letters.) The limit is in place to ensure that the comments you are posting have some quality and that you are not a computer program randomly placing things on the site. The exact time will stay private with me. If you get the message, take a minute or two off, come back, type your comment, and I'm sure it will let you post. If you still get that error message, contact me and I'll look into it.

  8. Is there a place where I can find all of the old posts you have made?
There sure is! All posts made can be found on the Master Archives page. This page lists all posts made in each category, by month, and a complete list of every post every made on the site (that I still want you to see).

  9. How do I find a post you made without going through the archives?
If you have an idea of what the post was about, use the search engine. It is found on the left side of most pages. Or, you can visit the RunPete search engine. The search will look for the keywords you search for in both the titles and the content of the posts on all blogs. Results are listed by best match and then by order of most recent post.

  10. What are tags?
Tags are a way to help classify the posts on the blogs. For example, some of the posts have a tag called "swimming." If you do a search for swimming, those posts will be listed in the search results. Also, we use a blog service tool called Technorati. The tags help Technorati determine what the post is about so it can classify it.

  11. What is the security code?
The security code is a built-in feature designed to prevent spammers from posting comments that have nothing to do with the blog post. Computers are unable to read the image. Therefore, to create a comment, a human is needed to insert the code. If you are unable to see or read the code, try refreshing the page. If you still have problems, e-mail me with your comment and I will post it for you.

Please inform me of the error message by contacting me. Hopefully I will catch any errors that show up before they are visible to any readers. There will be scheduled maintenance but I will inform everyone of that before it happens.
